I know green smoothies can be hit or miss.
Most people don’t like the green taste or rather the earthy taste of a green smoothie. While I don’t mind it, my husband is definitely not a fan so my goal is to always make green smoothies taste less like earth. This refreshing pear and kale smoothie is an experiment I tried when I was low on ingredients and wanted to use up what I had available. Surprisingly it came out really well and I loved the flavor combo.
Kale has become a known super food in the past few years. Did you know it’s a member of the cabbage family?
Kale is incredibly nutrient dense and In 1 cup you will get all your vitamin K, A, C well above the daily requirements. Along with vitamins, kale is high in antioxidants and which is helpful in protecting your heart, lowering blood pressure and is anti inflammatory to mention a few.
At this rate we should all be eating kale every single day.
The uncommon pear
I wonder how many people would choose a pear over an apple? For some reason I’ve always loved pears more. I love eating a pear with it’s skin on. Pears pair so well with kale, see what I did there?
Containing high dietary fibre, low calories and a decent amount of vitamin C and minerals, this refreshing pear and kale smoothie is definitely winning on providing you with an all time vitamin boost.
Smoothie add ins
Next we add some chia seeds which are great for fibre, calcium, iron and omega 3 fatty acids. As well as lemon juice. Fresh lemon juice is a great ingredient for green smoothies as it cuts through the earthy taste and adds a refreshing taste to this smoothie. Almond milk adds some creaminess and a date or two or a tablespoon of agave adds a dash of extra sweetness to balance out all the flavors.
I really hope you give this smoothie a try. It is:
- Nutrient dense
- Vitamin booster
- Energy breather
For an extra creamy smoothie add half an avocado to the mix. Trust me you won’t regret it.
This smoothie is perfect for breakfasts and afternoon snacks to give you a boost of nutrients for the day.
